# In defense of the books we abandon

Somewhere we absorbed the idea that starting a book is a contract. It isn't.

> Life is too short and the shelves are too full to finish a book out of guilt. Abandon it with gratitude and move on.

The reader who quits freely reads more, not less. Every book you don't finish makes room for one you can't put down.
