# The modal is usually a cop-out

Modals are the design equivalent of putting something 'somewhere for now'.

- They interrupt.
- They hide context.
- They stack, and then they trap.

Sometimes a modal is right. But if it's your default, it's worth asking what you're avoiding designing properly.
